How to Use the YouTube Sleep Timer: A Step-by-Step Guide

Are you someone who enjoys watching YouTube videos before falling asleep? Do you often find yourself waking up in the middle of the night with your device still playing videos? If so, YouTube has introduced a helpful feature just for you—the Sleep Timer.

Launched in October 2024, the YouTube Sleep Timer is a game-changing feature, especially for users who love watching calming videos like music, meditation, or ASMR before bedtime. This smart tool allows you to set a timer to automatically pause the video after a specific period, preventing your device from playing all night long and helping save battery life.

How to Use the Sleep Timer Feature on YouTube:
1: Open the YouTube app on your smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
2: Play the video you want to watch before sleeping.
3: Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) located at the top-right corner of the video player.
4: A list of options will appear. Look for and tap on the “Sleep Timer” option.
5: You’ll now see various timer settings—10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and End of Video.
6: Select the desired duration. For instance, choose 10 minutes if you want the video to stop after that time.
7: Once selected, the timer will begin. When it runs out, the video will automatically pause.
8: Your device will then enter Sleep Mode, ensuring no content keeps playing while you rest.

This feature is especially useful for night owls who use YouTube to unwind before sleep. It’s currently available to select users, and more devices are expected to get it soon.
