Nowadays, many people suffer from joint pain, back pain, and knee pain. In this article, we will talk about a special Ayurvedic plant, whose just two leaves can help relieve even the most persistent back and knee pain in just 10 minutes.
This plant is known as Aak or Madar, and its scientific name is Calotropis gigantea. In Ayurveda, it is also referred to as Arka. This plant has been used as a natural pain-relief medicine since ancient times. It is commonly found in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Middle East, especially in sandy or dry areas and along roadsides. The plant has broad leaves, and when broken, it releases a milky substance, often referred to as “milk” or latex.
How Does It Work?
This plant possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that help reduce pain and swelling. The two key compounds found in Aak leaves—Calotropin and Calotropagenin—are particularly effective in providing relief from pain and inflammation.
How to use Aak Leaves for Pain Relief
Ingredients Required:
1. 2 large Aak leaves
2. Mustard oil
3. A bandage or a clean cloth for wrapping

Steps to Follow:
- Take two large Aak leaves and wash them thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry the leaves using a clean cloth and apply a thin layer of mustard oil on them.
- Heat the leaves lightly on a low flame until they become soft.
- Place the warm leaves on the painful area (such as the knees or back).
- Secure them with a bandage or a clean cloth to keep them in place.
- Keep the leaves on for 10 minutes to 30 minutes, then remove them.
- You can do this twice a day for better results. Initially, apply the leaves morning and evening, and once the pain reduces, you can switch to using them once a day.
Precautions:
Do not consume any part of the Aak plant, including its leaves or milky latex. It is strictly for external use only.
Do not apply the plant’s latex or leaves on open wounds, as it contains toxic compounds that can be harmful if absorbed into the bloodstream.
Ayurveda also advises that Aak (Madar) should only be used externally for medicinal purposes.
By following these steps carefully, you can effectively reduce pain and improve your overall well-being using this powerful Ayurvedic remedy.
